Becoming a lawyer is not the only path you can take after graduating from law school. Every Monday we bring you the story of a former lawyer or law student who has taken an unusual or unique career path.
Stephan Pastis is the creator of the syndicated comic strip Pearls Before Swine, which appears in more than 650 newspapers worldwide. He attended the University of California at Berkeley before attending law school at UCLA. He worked as an insurance defense litigation attorney, where he was allowed to dress up as a Power Ranger. But that was not enough to keep him from becoming disillusioned with the practice of the law. After rejections of various concepts, Pearls Before Swine was accepted in 1999 by a syndication agency, and Pastis soon quit his day job to work on his comic full-time.
